Kathy Kelly, international activist, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, and founder of Voices in the Wilderness, will speak at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the home of Deb Marshall and Kim Petty, Coveside Lane, behind the Red House B&B.
Sponsored by Island Peace and Justice and by Veterans for Peace, Kelly will speak on a humanitarian’s perspective of the war and sanctions in Iraq.
Voices in the Wilderness was founded by Kelly in 1996 to focus attention to the harm done to Iraqi people by warfare and economic sanctions. The group has organized delegations to Iraq in violation of U.S. law to deliver medical supplies to children and families in need. Kelly has visited Iraq more than 20 times.
Kelly was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 and 2002 and she again was nominated, along with her organization, this year.
The public is invited. Freewill donations to support the work of Voices in the Wilderness will be welcomed.
