On August 7th, four members of the Al Kawas family were killed by US military fire as they were sitting in their car, traveling through their Baghdad neighborhood. At a Coalition Provisional Authority press conference held by Lieutenant General Sanchez, head of the US military in Iraq, friends and associates with Voices in the Wilderness challenged Sanchez with questions about the ongoing chaos in Iraq and the killing of civilians, specifically the Al Kawas family deaths. During the press conference, Ewa Jasiewicz and Caoimhe Butterly unfurled a banner that said “The Killing Continues” in English and Arabic, and they were immediately escorted out of the press conference. Afterwards, we were able to tape Ewa and Caiomhe’s conversations with the media.
