George W. Bush claims that the people of the United States have given him a mandate to continue and intensify his genocidal war against the people of Iraq.
At the behest of the Bush administration U.S. appointed Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi has abandoned successful and ongoing negotiations with the people of Fallujah in favor of a full-scale military assault that is intended to break the will of the Iraqi people.
More than 600 people were killed in the last assault by US forces on Fallujah and a survey published in The Lancet, Britain’s premier medical journal, reveals that the invasion and occupation of Iraq has been responsible for the deaths of as many as 100,000 Iraqis since the war began.
U.S. forces have been pounding Fallujah with airstrikes since Friday and have surrounded the city with more than 10,000 troops in preparation for a ground assault that will result in the deaths of hundreds if not thousands of innocent people. Bush and Allawi claim that 80% of the civillian population has left Fallujah but upwards of 30,000 men, women and children remain trapped in their homes without food, running water or electricity.
In a letter to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan the people of Fallujah have asked the international community to intervene and prevent further massacres from taking place.
An international call to action has been issued and emergency response demonstrations are planned in hundreds of cities throughout the world.
Join together with Chicagoans the day after the ground assault begins to demand an immediate end to the occupation and these continuing attrocities against the people of Iraq.
