Can Be Summed Up In Two Words: Anarchy and Chaos
Mary Trotochaud of Voices in The Wilderness attended today's daily U.N. Press Briefing at the Intercontinental Hotel in Amman, Jordan and reports the following:
From the Office of Humanitarian Coordinator - UNICEF
The inaction by the occupying powers is in violation of the Geneva convention, which explicitly states that medial establishments must be protected, that the wounded and sick must be the object of particular attention and respect, and that hospital personnel must be protected and must be free to carry out their duties.
There is no law and no order at the moment in Baghdad. There is wide spread looting. Every official building and most of UN compounds have been looted
Al Kindi Hospital, one of the biggest in Baghdad, has been looted and Medical City Center Hospital has no more water. The coalition forces seem to be completely unable to restrain the looters or impose any sort of control on the mobs that now govern the streets.
From the World Health Organization (WHO)
Surgical and medical supplies from central warehouses are not getting to hospitals when their own stocks are running out. There have been no new deliveries of medicine or medical supplies from outside the country since before the conflict began three weeks ago.
Voices in The Wilderness' 13 Iraq Peace Team (IPT) members are continuing independent non-embedded reporting from Baghdad where they remain to help Iraqi citizens as they struggle to survive through bombardment and invasion.
